The BDPA Chapter Team and Working Group members are volunteer developers, designers, administrators and managers who have worked together to take BDPA Columbus! to new heights in its relatively short life. BDPA Columbus! has some wonderfully talented people taking Business and InformationTechnology concepts to the forefront of industry standards. You can review a list of volunteer opportunities at the end of this article.

Here just some of what members can volunteer for at BDPA Columbus:
Strategy & Planning Committee
This committee is responsible for handling all aspects of chapter strategic planning. Working in close coordination with the President, the Strategy and Planning Committee manages and coordinates the business operations of the chapter. These business operations include strategy, planning, organization, reporting, policy & procedures, administrative and information technology (IT) support.
Deliverables:
- Develop Chapter Business Plan
- Facilitate chapter strategic planning workshops
- Coordinating Chapter's Corporate Advisory Council meetings
- Submit monthly chapter metrics
- Maintain and update chapter project plan(s)
Member Services/Professional Development Committee
This committee is responsible for planning the monthly/quarterly program meetings. This includes planning and coordinating speakers and facilities. In addition, they are responsible for publishing the annual calendar of events. Presenters are carefully selected to offer state-of-the art insight on the latest Information Technology trends. Â Another responsibility is hosting seminars, workshops and certification study groups to ensure that BDPA meets its mission of strengthening the expertise of minority members of the Information Technology Industry. In addition to technical seminars and training, the Professional Development Committee hosts career nights, resume writing and other workshops to help members develop their soft skills.
Deliverables:
- Develop rolling 13 month Program Meeting schedule
- Plan three Professional Development programs
- Implement podcast/webcast of program meetings
- Solicit career opportunities from local employers human resources offices
Membership Management Committee
This committee is responsible for member recruitment, retention, processing applications, and maintaining an accurate local chapter membership database. This includes coordinating transmittals of new/renewal members and database changes with the National VP of Membership Management.? As new members join BDPA, the Membership Committee conducts new Member Orientations and makes sure new member packages are distributed.
Deliverables:
- Send retention email to current and expired members
- Conducts new Member Orientations and makes sure new member packages are distributed
- Communicate membership totals to local and national leadership
- Send? membership survey to current and former members
- Coordinate with Marketing team on Membership drive
- Coordinate program meeting membership sign-in process
Finance Management Committee
The Finance Management committee is responsible for the financial management of the chapter and for maintaining applicable relationships with financial entities.
Deliverables:
- Submit and maintain chapter budget
- Submit financial reports to National office
Marketing/Communication Committee
This committee handles both the marketing and public relations efforts for the organization. Marketing means, in a nutshell, letting people know what BDPA is all about, how to join our ranks, or how to become involved in BDPA programs. This committee is responsible for creating BDPA exposure in radio and print media, announcing programs and activities. Team assumes the responsibility of maintaining the chapter website, and ensuring that information regarding the chapter programs is disseminated through electronic as well as print media.
Deliverables:
- Send BDPA Columbus marketing materials to local media outlets
- Plan 3rd Quarter networking event
- Update BDPA-Columbus Website (Blog and Program Meetings)
- Send program meeting notices to members and corporate sponsors
- Coordinate meetings with local Corporate sponsors
- Coordinate with National VP of Marketing on marketing materials (Flyers, brochures and other items)
Community Services Committee
This committee is responsible for community outreach programs within Columbus metropolitan area. This includes the Mentors Program, Student Internships, Speakers Bureau, Student Recognition, Student Scholarships, Adopt-a-School, Adopt-a-Class, This committee arranges for facilities, books, equipment, instructors and other resources in support of these programs.
Deliverables
- Plan three Community Outreach programs
- Coordinate with Non-Profit Computer Technology Center? on Digital Divide initiatives
- Present local community awareness programs to general membership body
- Liaison for the Alliance for African -American Organizations (A30)
High School Computer Competition Committee
This committee is a sub-committee of the community service committee. This committee is responsible for recruiting and training a team of High School students to compete for scholarships funds at the National BDPA conference. The committee supports this program by providing instructors and training materials. The HSCC program is designed to expose our youth to the concepts of computers and give them the expertise to develop web applications.
